This book is fiction, any resemblance to a character or event in real life is purely coincidental. And yet it is reality. It is a story about a subculture that I have been a member of for longer than I can remember. I will be accused by some of exaggerating: the bucking horses, the wild cattle, and the meanness. There are no exaggerations here. There are no six-guns with seven bullets. I know what I'm talking about. I've eaten the dust and drank the dirty water.

Tommy Lee, not quite eighteen, shows up at a real cow outfit the morning after his high school graduation ceremony. He is long on cowboy skills but short om social skills, and his job on the Cow Creek Ranch will put him in situations he's not prepared to deal with. Wanting to make a hand and be somebody, Tommy throws in with some very experienced older men who aren't afraid to use their knowledge and expertise to gain wealth quick.

There is nothing far fetched about this story - you might even say it's dangerously close to the truth.
